What I think this quote means is that to just keep your word all the time. He means by stating the chalk line is he promised now to cross it and he never will. Why? Because he kept his word and decides to stay in it . If you keep your word , you must keep it no matter what. It is good to do that because people will start to like you and would want to befriend you. I think this quote is actually quite amazing. Like yes , you can be trapped inside a prison with a wall of stone but he would still has a possibility of escaping. People who keep their word are the happiest people out there. Thats why everyone should just keep your word and you’ll be happy and good .
